Peter Mayer to stream annual N.J. holiday show from his hometown Many folks reasonably are shelving their holiday visiting plans this year and opting to stay home. Peter Mayer, lead guitarist for Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band, is no exception.stream annual N.J. holiday
The singer-songwriter traditionally hits the road with his own band just around this time each winter for his annual “Stars and Promises” Christmas concert tour, which for more than a decade has included a stop in Somerville.
“We’re really, really looking forward to this,” Mayer says in a video message on his website. “We’ve been putting a ton of work into it, we’ve got an incredible band and some great videographers. And since we can’t do this up close and personal this year, we decided we just couldn’t go a Christmas without seeing you all in some form or fashion for ‘Stars and Promises.’”
This will be the 21st year Mayer and his band has “embarked” on the tour, which added Somerville to its itinerary more than 10 years ago. Each year, proceeds from the concerts benefit selected local charities. Proceeds from 2020′s online concert will benefit the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset and the Somerville Educational Foundation.
The performance will feature arrangements of traditional and original carols composed and led by Mayer and his band, and there will be a virtual guest appearance by the Somerville Chamber Choir, directed by Karen Gorzinski.
Those wishing to view the concert must register beforehand at facebook.com/petermayergroup, at which time log-in details will be provided. For more information, visit petermayer.com.stream annual N.J. holiday
Mayer noted the theme for this year’s tour is “The Unexpected Gift.”
“It has been a trying time for communities across this country that are experiencing challenges and loss through this pandemic,” Mayer says. “As we move into the season that heralds refrains of hope, joy and peace, I have been amazed to witness the unexpected gift of communities stepping up to care for fellow citizens and neighbors. I have seen courage and hope alive and well in people coming together to share ‘the best of us for the rest of us.’”stream annual N.J. holiday
Mayer joined Jimmy Buffett’s Coral Reefer Band in 1988 after being invited to work on the laid-back legend’s album “Off to See the Lizard.”
Outside of his duties for Buffett, Mayer has released 13 albums to date and tours year-round with the Peter Mayer Group. He has hinted that he plans to release a live album stemming from the “The Unexpected Gift” live-stream sessions.stream annual N.J. holiday
